What data we collect
We collect personal data in the following ways:
- Via email contact — When you email us, we collect your name, email address, and the content of your message.
- Via the STERK app (web and phone) — When you create an account or use the app, we collect identification data (name, date of birth, nationality, profile photo), contact details (email, phone, address), employment data (CV, skills, work history, certifications), financial data (bank details for payroll), housing-related information, identity and permit documents (passport, work and residence permit, P-tal), confirmation of a clean criminal record where the job requires it, and marriage certificates where needed for registration. STERK only keeps a clean criminal record certificate and does not hire without one; certificates showing convictions are not stored.
- Via this website — We do not use tracking cookies. Basic server logs may record your IP address and browser information for security purposes.
Purpose of data processing
We process your personal data for the following purposes:
- Matching workers with suitable job placements
- Managing employment contracts and payroll
- Arranging housing and travel logistics
- Fulfilling legal obligations (TAKS, immigration and municipal registration, insurance)
- Communicating about services, assignments, and support
- Improving our services and the STERK app
Legal basis
We process your data based on one or more of the following legal grounds: performance of a contract (employment, staffing services), compliance with legal obligations (tax, labor law), legitimate interests (improving our services, security), or your explicit consent where required.
Who receives personal data
We share personal data only where it is necessary for the stated purpose, permitted by law, and subject to appropriate access controls. Depending on your relationship with STERK, recipients may include:
- Authorised STERK employees and contractors
- Prospective or confirmed client companies, limited to information needed to assess or manage a placement
- Housing, travel, insurance, payroll, banking, IT and document-service providers
- Property owners who rent homes to STERK for worker housing. They receive the name of each worker living in their property and the move-in and move-out dates. When you sublet a STERK home, the property owner receives a copy of your signed sublease, as Leigulógin § 16 requires. STERK does not give property owners your contact details, other documents or pay information.
- TAKS, immigration, labour-market or other public authorities where required
- Professional advisers where necessary to establish, exercise or defend legal claims

- Right of access — request a copy of your personal data
- Right to rectification — request correction of inaccurate data
- Right to erasure — request deletion of your data
- Right to data portability — receive your data in a machine-readable format
- Right to restrict processing — limit how we use your data
- Right to object — object to processing based on legitimate interests
- Right to withdraw consent — where processing is based on your consent, you may withdraw it at any time, without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before the withdrawal
- Right to complain — lodge a complaint with Dátueftirlitið, the Faroese Data Protection Authority, at www.dat.fo
Data retention
We retain your personal data only for as long as necessary to fulfill the purposes described above, or as required by law. Employment and payroll records are retained in accordance with Faroese tax and labor regulations. When data is no longer needed, it is securely deleted or anonymized.
Data storage, access & international transfers
STERK stores personal data on servers located in the EU/EEA, using service providers and data centres selected for appropriate data-protection and security safeguards. Authorised users and providers may access personal data from the Faroe Islands or the EU/EEA where this is necessary for the purposes described above.
Where personal data is transferred to a country that is not recognised as providing an adequate level of protection, STERK will use an appropriate legal transfer mechanism and supplementary safeguards where required. Contact us if you would like information about the safeguards relevant to your data.
We implement technical and organisational measures designed to protect personal data against unauthorised access, loss, alteration or misuse. These include encrypted connections, role-based access controls and operational access procedures. No system can guarantee absolute security.
